Aviva Family Care: Free Mental Health Support for Your Family

We all know that taking care of our physical health is important, but what about our mental health? Whether it’s stress, anxiety, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life, having the right support can make a world of difference.

That’s where Aviva Family Care comes in, a counselling and psychotherapy service that gives you and your family access to professional mental health support when you need it most.

What Is Family Care?

Family Care is Aviva’s mental health support service, offered through Aviva Care in partnership with Teladoc Health. It gives you access to qualified professionals, including clinical, counselling, and health psychologists, all registered with the Irish Psychological Society.

Through the service, you can access a range of therapies like counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you or your loved ones navigate life’s challenges in a safe, supportive, and confidential space.

How This Free Benefit Works with Aviva

The Aviva Family Care service isn’t something you have to pay extra for; it’s a free benefit that comes with specific Aviva protection policies.

Here’s what that means:

Included with Your Policy: If your Aviva plan includes the Aviva Family Care service, you automatically get access. There’s no extra cost,  it’s part of your cover.

Powered by Aviva Care: In Ireland, the Aviva Family Care service is part of Aviva Care, which also includes wellbeing supports such as second medical opinions, online GP services, and bereavement support.

Use It When You Need Support: Each eligible person can access up to five sessions per issue per year, allowing you to discuss your concerns and receive the right support when you need it most.

Optional, but Handy: You don’t have to use it, but it’s there when you need quick advice or reassurance.

Who Can Benefit from It?

One of the best aspects of Aviva Family Care is that it’s not just for the policyholder; it’s designed to support the entire family. Eligible users include:

  • The Aviva customer or employee covered under the policy
  • Their spouse or partner
  • Their children up to age 18, or up to 23 if in full-time education

For children under 18, support begins with an initial assessment session (with parental or guardian consent). During this consultation, a psychologist will make recommendations and guide parents or guardians on how to access further specialised services locally, if needed.

What Policies Include This Free Aviva Family Care?

You don’t need to pay extra to access this expert medical service; it’s automatically included with many of Aviva’s protection policies.

Here’s where it comes as part of your cover:

If you have any of the above with Aviva, you’re already covered. Not sure what you have? Please review your policy documents or consult with your advisor.

How to Access the Service

Getting started is simple. To register:

  1. Visit www.aviva.ie/avivacare.
  2. Enter your policy number (for Individual Protection policies) or access code (for group scheme members).
  3. Create your account and log in anytime to request the service.

When Can You Use It?

Life can become overwhelming, and sometimes, speaking with a professional can be truly helpful. You might reach out to Family Care if you’re:

  • Feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed
  • Struggling with low mood, loneliness, or depression
  • Finding it hard to cope with life events such as loss, relationship difficulties, or major changes
  • Looking to develop better coping and behavioural skills

Each eligible family member can access up to 5 sessions per issue per year, giving everyone the opportunity to receive meaningful support throughout the year.

In Case of Emergency

While Aviva Family Care offers excellent support for mental health and emotional well-being, it’s not suitable for medical emergencies. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact your nearest A&E or dial 999 or 112 immediately.

This service allows you (or a family member) to:

  • Double-check the original diagnosis
  • Explore alternative treatment options
  • Avoid unnecessary or risky procedures

Access to the Bereavement Support service is easy and completely confidential.

All clinical, counselling and health psychologists are registered with the Irish Psychological Society.

Protection, such as income protection, serious illness insurance, and life insurance, is not just an add‑on. It’s the foundation of a solid financial plan. While savings and investments help you grow wealth, protection ensures stability and peace of mind when unexpected illness or loss strikes.
